What Do I Carry Around

Personality Defined
The first image is my Pandora Bracelets: these are always on my wrist and represent so many different things to me. They are charm bracelets, so each charm has a separate meaning. Overall, they represent my personality and my relationship with those closest to me.

Music for Moods
The second image is my headphones: I have these in every bag I own and take them with me everywhere. Whether i'm walking to class, studying, or working out, music is the best way to make any situation better. If I am upset I listen to music to cheer me up, I listen to music because I am happy, and I listen to music for motivation. I am a very busy personality, I dont like having time to think alone, and I dont like being bored, so music solves both of these problems. I also love dancing which isnt possible without music.

Digital Entertainment
The third image is my computer. I am always doing something on my computer, whether it is studying, playing online, watching TV series, or working. I carry my laptop with me everywhere because you never know when you are going to need to do something, especially in class. My laptop was also given to me as a graduation gift by my grandma so it means even more to me.

Constantly Connected
The fourth image is my phone charger. I also carry a phone charger with me everywhere, in case my phone dies. I am a very social person and I dislike being alone, so if I have my phone I can talk to my friends even when I am by myself. I also use my phone for my calender and to do list, as a very organized person it is important to me to have everything with me at all times.

Sparkly Athlete
Lastly, the fifth image is a sparkly hairband. I have tons of these and they are always on my wrists or in my hair. These represent several things about me, the first is that I love my long hair. I have been growing my hair out since high school and I love it long, so I have to carry hair bands around to control it. Second, I have had hairbands on my wrist since middle school, because I played sports almost every single day. I always needed a hairband for athletic events so I started keeping them on my wrist. Lastly, these hairbands are sparkly which I love because even though I am athletic, I am now trying to have a more sophisticated persona. So I have upgraded my plain black hairbands to ones that can almost pass for bracelets.

Allan Kaprow: Essays on the Burning of Art and Life

I thought this article was very interesting, which was surprising to me. As I read the first few sentences I began to think it was going to be another article over thinking an action or an event, attempting to transform it into something "deep". But the article was not like this at all. He started out analyzing himself while brushing his teeth, not because he wanted to take tooth brushing and turn it into some profound action, but because he just started paying attention one day. Then from then on he began to pay more and more attention to the daily mundane task of tooth brushing. He uses this as the backbone of the article, to discuss how art, more specifically the display and views of art, are changing. I think this was a clever way to show that by taking art into a gallery it diminishes it, and then when all art is outside the gallery it becomes diminished again. Which I think was his main point. That art should be something appreciated by the veiwer because it is beautiful and interesting to them, not because it is inside a gallery, or displayed on a wall.

Lawerence Welscher: The Dessert

I also liked this article. It was interesting because it was the story of inspiration, not the story of artwork already made. This case is particularly interesting because nothing was ever created from the inspiration, it was just that. I believe this makes it a better story. After a piece of art is created the artist has been staring at it for a long period of time, and can now fully evaluate it. Here I think most artists add and subtract from their "inspiration". By saying they were inspired by something they weren't because it fits better with the artwork. I also liked that he didnt do anything with the space that inspired him so much, because that would have taken away from it.

George Saunders Has Written the  Best Book You'll Read This Year

This article was interesting, because we really haven't explored anything but the more traditional definition of art. Literature is a form of art and it is interesting to explore how to critique and analyze it. I think overall I enjoy literature more than looking at a painting, or a photograph, because it really does take you to another place and transform your emotions. That is what this article was really talking about, George Saunders ability to create an emotional response to literature. That is why the author thinks that this is the best book you will read this year, because it is something you can get attached to, or get into. George's ability to portray emotions in his works of literature, probably comes from his personality which seems to be sensitive to emotional experiences. This is illustrated by the first story of the experiences that you go through after being close to death.

The Clock

I went to the Wexner Center for the Arts to see "The Clock" exhibit. At first I thought it was going to be a little boring, but watching it was completely opposite. First, I didnt realized it was synced to the time outside, so I thought that was something cool that happened just for me, which would have been awesome, but it was still cool.  The time that must have gone into making a video that has a minute from every hour of every day and then the time that it would take to set up an exhibit that could play a video like this would be incredibly complex, which makes the video very impressive. The actual video itself I found intriguing but also stressful. The constant clock checking made me feel like someone was coming after me. However, as I watched I didnt even realize how much time is passing because it was so interesting watching all the different clips, guessing what was coming next, and looking for celebrities.

I have always thought of myself as a creative person, but I am more design orientated than artistic. I usually do not enjoy artwork with heavy messages that dont actually do anything, especially films. However, this was definitely something I would pay to see and actually enjoyed.

Blog 6 (Cardiff and Miller)

This article was interesting because it was from the perspective of someone viewing the art, so you get to experience the art as the actual viewer does.

I don't know how I would feel about an art walk but the way the author described it, it seemed to be interesting. I liked the idea of the train station more than the forest, and I actually wanted to experience  after reading about them  The train station seemed like something you would want to watch bigger than on an Iphone, which I think could actually make it less cool.  The forest would make the experience cooler because the environment is already beautiful, and adding the sound to it would just aid in the experience.

I do not feel like this is something I would necessarily pay a lot of money for, but if I was walking through a train station or a forest I would like it to be enhanced by music in some way. This article also had an interesting back story, the story of Cardiff and Miller and their love life together. Which was perfectly timed for Valentine's Day.

Journey to Class

This class is my second class of the day, unfortunately I have an 8 am class beforehand. That means that everyday I spend the majority of my morning journey getting to that class from my house off campus. The walk from that class to the stadium for this class is significantly shorter, which is great. Although the first walk is longer and colder, I prefer to the walk to this class. The majority of that reason is because on Friday at 8 am there aren't the usual swarms of people roaming campus. In addition to this the sun has just risen and the temperature is usually brisk. This makes my first walk, the walk to my first class, almost a tranquil experience. I also listen to music on this walk, which makes it even more of an experience as opposed to a walk. (as dumb as that sounds)

Then, as I leave that class to trek towards the stadium for this class it seems like the entire school is out. This could probably be attributed to the fact that I have to walk through the oval and that is a very central location on campus. Regardless, it is not the tranquil relaxing experience of the first walk.

That was the first thing I noticed as I analyzed my journey to class. The second was the fact that as I walked from my first class to my second, I almost never looked at other people. I would consider myself an outgoing person, but for some reason on that walk I make no eye-contact with other students, let alone speak to them. I thought this was a little odd considering I probably could say hello or good morning to a few more people.

Lastly, I remembered from my first walk to class how confusing it was, not to actually find the building, but to find the classroom for this class. That is something a little different than most classes. Usually, the building is the hard part and once you get there you can find the room. Here the building is a beacon of campus and the classroom is hidden.

To create my map I combined all of these things:

  1. Lack of tranquility: represented by the chaos of the images overlapping
  2. Lack of sociability: represented by the person with their back to me
  3. Confusion in location: represented by the signs and the maps.
